Proud Yamatji Badimaya and Cameleer descendent.
Umber is a proud Yamatji Badimaya woman. She has always been passionate about two things. Healthcare and anti-racism. Growing up in the arid Pilbara region of Western Australia she has first hand experience in what it is like to be othered and to be a target of racism. Having an interest in medicine led her to fulfilling her childhood goal of becoming a doctor. During her journey she has faced many obstacles which has given her first hand lived experience about what she calls “covert” racism that exists in universities and institutions. This has led her to advocate strongly on behalf of woman of colour.
